Zovirax Cream contains an antiviral agent called aciclovir which prevents the multiplication of viruses in the body. This action stops the virus from multiplying and spreading. This medicine is used to treat cold sores (an inflamed blister on the inside of the mouth) and genital herpes sores (an outbreak of sores on the inside of the mouth).
Use Zovirax Cream as prescribed by your doctor or as prescribed by your pharmacist.
Follow the instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist carefully.
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as possible and go back to your normal time of the day to prepare to continue treatment. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose.
Do not use Zovirax Cream if you have an allergic reaction to aciclovir, valaciclovir, ciclosATE (a type of aciclovir), erythromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, propafenone/proguanil or any other macrolide antibiotic (erythromycin, ketoconazole, erythromycin, clarithromycin, erythromycin, indapamide). Avoid alcohol consumption while using Zovirax Cream.
Before starting treatment with Zovirax Cream, inform your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, regurgitation or if you have any history of allergy attacks.
This medicine can cause serious side effects, including liver problems, increased risk of blood clot formation or an allergic attack on the kidneys. If you notice any of the following symptoms, notify your doctor immediately.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Avoid contact with eyes. Zovirax Cream may make you feel dizzy. Use a mosquito repellent (e.g. eflornithine/air crests) near the site of the infection. Use a protective covering to prevent contact with the eyes.
Zovirax Cream is for external use only. Do not apply to broken or crushed tablets. Do not use if the blister has become cracked or has had its seal removed. Do not use if the tube that carries it to your doctor's office is tampered with.
If you are pregnant, unless your doctor tells you to stop treatment, then do not use Zovirax Cream and ask your doctor to change the dose of the medicine from time to time. Zovirax Cream should not be used during or under the skin. Zovirax Cream should not be used during childbirth. If a woman is pregnant or wants to use Zovirax Cream while she is pregnant, the drug should be stopped immediately.
If a woman is breastfeeding, then the drug should be stopped.
